Kaka Moving to Chelsea for $160 million

One great thing about having a Russian billionaire oligarch as an owner, you are immune to the credit crunch.

Roman Abramovich will reach between the seats of his Ferrari to find the £80m ($160m) required to bring Kaka to Chelsea from AC Milan.  Milan did not wish to sell the player, but, given their current financial position, the deal is too good to refuse.

The transfer, if consummated, would smash the record £46m ($92m) paid by Real Madrid for Zinedine Zidane in 2001.

The deal makes sense for everyone. Chelsea doesn’t care about money and got arguably the best player in the world.  AC Milan now have the cash to spring for an actual young player, or five.  The 26-year-old Brazilian gets a pay raise and 15% of that fat transfer fee.

With United standing pat, Arsenal selling players and Liverpool irrelevant, Chelsea have thrown down a ten-ton gauntlet.
